As the leaves turn crisp and the nights grow colder, there’s no better way to celebrate Halloween than with a spooky board game night! Whether you’re hosting friends, family, or fellow tabletop enthusiasts, here’s your ultimate guide to crafting a night filled with thrills, chills, and unforgettable gaming fun.
Set the Mood: Spookify Your Space
Creating the ultimate Halloween vibe is key!
Decorations: Add cobwebs, spooky lighting (think candles or orange string lights), mini pumpkins, and ghostly tablecloths.
Soundtrack: Curate a playlist of eerie tunes or ambient spooky sounds to play softly in the background.
Snacks: Serve creepy-themed treats like gummy worms, “witches’ brew” punch, or coffin-shaped cookies. Bonus points for game-themed snacks (e.g., meeple cookies or dice cupcakes).
Plan the Flow of the Night
Make sure the event is as smooth as a potion brew by organizing your time:
Game Teaching: Choose games appropriate for your group’s experience level or send out short tutorial videos before the event.
Timing: Kick off with a shorter game to warm up, then dive into something longer. Allow room for breaks to refresh.
Rotations: For larger groups, have multiple game tables with a mix of board/card games so everyone stays engaged.
Dress the Part
Get everyone into the spooky spirit with costumes. Add extra flavour by getting inspiration from your planned games. Some examples include investigators from Arkham Horror, infamous Disney villains, and characters from Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow. Don’t forget a prize for the best costume!
Add Halloween-Themed Extras
Amp up the fun with these little touches:
Themed invitations: Set the tone early with creepy invites in advance (digital or hand-delivered scrolls!).
Prizes or Trophies: Give out mini prizes for best strategist, most heroic survivor, or even “most cursed gameplay.”
Photo Booth: Set up a Halloween-themed photo area for guests to capture the night’s memories.
Don’t Forget Post-Game Cleanup
The scariest part of any game night can be the mess, so prepare ahead. Have bags ready for trash and designate a space for game components to avoid missing pieces. If guests are willing, enlist a few helping hands for easy cleanup.
And now, for the games!

It’s a Ghost Blitz… Blitz!
What could be spookier for Halloween than ghosties? We’ve got a selection of Ghost Blitz titles that you and the kiddoes will love this Halloween!
Children as young as four years old can play this quick-reaction game, grabbing the right object at the right time. Various animals are waiting in the middle of the table. The cards show three of them in different colors. The objective is to grab whatever comes up in its original color.
Ghost Blitz is a lightning-fast reaction game which is won by the player with the quickest hands and mind. Each card flipped over is a new mini brain game to solve. This is a new kind of brain training. Lightning-fast reflexes is the key – but you also must be nimble of mind. Can you find the figure that is hiding on each of the 60 cards? Which player is the quickest to solve the puzzle, and grab the correct object before the others can react? Be quick but don’t grab the wrong object.
Ghost Blitz Mini is a brilliant reaction game in which quick-wittedness and the right action are crucial. Five large wooden items in five colors stand in the middle of the table. In each round, players turn over one card that shows two items in two different colors. Now the players have to realize as quick as lightning which item to look for. If neither figure is depicted in its original color, you have to grab the item whose shape or color cannot be found on the card. But if an item is depicted in its original color, this item has to be grabbed. If you are right, you win the card. The player with the most cards in the end wins.
Ghost Blitz 2 The new version of Ghost Blitz with different items: five wooden items sit on the table waiting to be caught: a white female ghost, a green frog, a grey bathtub, a blue hairbrush, and a red bath towel. Each card in the deck shows pictures of two objects, with one or both objects colored the wrong way. With all players playing at the same time, someone reveals a card, then players grab for the “right” object but which object is right?
Legend has it that there’s a fabulous treasure hiding somewhere inside the old mansion down the road, but to find it you’ll need the help of the resident ghost, Captain Echo. His goal is to help other players guess the right card among five choices. Will you guess the right sound?
ICECOOL Wizards is a flicking game in which you explore the penguin school of magic, study to become a great wizard, and finally prove your skills by completing challenging exams! Players take turns flicking their penguin figures around the board and collecting lesson cards that will provide magic points at the game’s end. Lesson cards can also be traded in for exam cards that provide even more magic points or used as spells for special abilities. At the end of the game, the player with the most magic points wins.
There is a costume party at Castle Shudderstone – but only the scariest characters are allowed to take part in this monster of all parties.
