At the behest of shadowy antiquarian Randall Tillinghast\u2014who presents them with an offer they can\u2019t refuse\u2014our investigators travel to the South Pacific and the vast, alien city of R\u2019lyeh. However, the more they explore, the more terrors they discover, and as a looming sense of dread grows, they find themselves\u2014and all of Arkham\u2014faced with a colossal threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The time has come. Cthulhu has awakened, and Arkham will never be the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fantasy Flight Games is thrilled to announce&nbsp;<em>The Drowned City<\/em>, a pair of brand-new expansions for&nbsp;<em>Arkham Horror: The Card Game<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This pair of separate-but-related expansions sees our investigators exploring the mysterious and deadly city of R\u2019lyeh as it slowly rises from the ocean\u2019s depths. Six new investigators from\u00a0<em>The Drowned City Investigator Expansion<\/em>\u00a0must scale the city\u2019s crumbling foundations, scour the sea floor for alien artifacts, and navigate mind-bending machinery and shifting corridors in\u00a0<em>The Drowned City Campaign Expansion<\/em>. As always, you will only find player cards within the\u00a0<em>Investigator Expansion<\/em>\u00a0while all the scenario and campaign content is contained within the\u00a0<em>Campaign Expansion<\/em>. This pair of expansions marks a pretty big turning point for the game line (more on that later), but even if they didn\u2019t, you won\u2019t be able to resist the call of this latest wave of\u00a0<em>Arkham Horror<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/a9\/fe\/a9fef3b7-ce62-4e61-b72d-16b0ea58b058\/ahc83-84_splash_art_1_700x560.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An Offer you Can\u2019t Refuse<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With a new wave of\u00a0<em>Arkham Horror: The Card Game<\/em>\u00a0content comes a new batch of playable investigators. This time around, there are six investigators joining the roster, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/33\/5a\/335aed87-16b2-44e6-9d5c-d12180638c19\/ahc83_marion_tavares_horizontal_1.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First among them is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/33\/5a\/335aed87-16b2-44e6-9d5c-d12180638c19\/ahc83_marion_tavares_horizontal_1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marion Tavares<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City Investigator Expansion<\/em>, 1), the trawler. This fierce fisherwoman lost her right arm to a strange aquatic monster, but that hasn\u2019t stopped her from defending those she cares about while sailing the waters off Arkham\u2019s shores. While she only has one hand slot for equipping assets, Marion makes up for it with her inherent affinity for playing events. Once per round, she can play an event, draw a card, and then play another event back-to-back without needing to spend an additional action. Since this is a reaction ability, Marion can trigger it after playing\u00a0<em>any<\/em>\u00a0event during her turn, including a fast one, letting you potentially play two cards without spending a single action!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marion\u2019s emphasis on events is reflected in her signature cards as well. Her deck comes with two copies of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/dd\/de\/ddde2f4c-cffb-4e5e-8f9c-f6e09a7dc7e6\/ahc83_determined_02.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Determined<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE,\u00a0<\/em>2), a skill card that can bounce back into Marion\u2019s hand when she uses it to help herself pass a skill test on an event she played. This means that Marion can open her turn with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/da\/b7\/dab7e3c6-5b5b-4ac2-82a6-81c3c4061cc0\/ahc83_ready_for_anything_24.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ready for Anything<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 24), netting herself a card and a bit of horror healing, then use her innate ability to draw\u00a0<em>another<\/em>\u00a0card and wallop an enemy with an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/25\/b6\/25b66e76-41b6-4e14-b0b0-8191cc29166d\/ahc83_improvised_weapon_92.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Improvised Weapon<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 92) played from her discard pile. She can boost her Combat stat with Determination to ensure the fight test ends in success, and boom; the enemy gets hit, Marion gets Determination back, and\u2014since Improvised Weapon was in her discard pile\u2014she draws yet\u00a0<em>another<\/em>\u00a0card. Three cards drawn, two cards played, and all in just a single action! With all this action efficiency, it\u2019s no wonder that Marion has a tendency to say\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/f1\/61\/f161e3fd-8896-47b0-aecb-873157984a3a\/ahc83_ill_do_it_myself_03.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cI\u2019ll do it myself\u201d<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE,<\/em>\u00a03), which can definitely cause some issues if she keeps playing events willy-nilly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/8c\/f6\/8cf6cb0e-d009-4ff9-9f68-c203c88ee7d4\/ahc83_agatha_crane_horizontal_7_seeker.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/30\/9a\/309afc63-0bba-4872-b3ec-370f286afc1e\/ahc83_agatha_crane_horizontal_8_mystic.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Marion Tavares, we have the parapsychologist, Agatha Crane. As a researcher whose work toes the line between science and the occult, Agatha has two different versions: a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/8c\/f6\/8cf6cb0e-d009-4ff9-9f68-c203c88ee7d4\/ahc83_agatha_crane_horizontal_7_seeker.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seeker version<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 7) and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/30\/9a\/309afc63-0bba-4872-b3ec-370f286afc1e\/ahc83_agatha_crane_horizontal_8_mystic.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mystic version<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE,<\/em>\u00a08). Both versions of Agatha have the same stats and innate abilities, but they differ in deckbuilding elements. Seeker Agatha wants Seeker cards and\u00a0<strong><em>Insight<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0events, while Mystic Agatha wants Mystic cards and\u00a0<strong><em>Spell<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0events. Each version lets her splash a bit of the other in her deck, allowing you to craft the perfect union of magic and science regardless of which version you choose to play!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar to Marion, Agatha\u2019s inherent ability allows her to play events outside of her normal actions, though hers are triggered by sealing, canceling, or ignoring chaos tokens. Agatha\u2019s signature asset, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/b7\/33\/b7339163-bc8f-48f1-86fe-42cbbbed9c48\/ahc83_ocula_obscura_09.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ocula Obscura<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 9), lets her seal a numerical token revealed during a skill test, effectively storing it for the next test she performs. This means that, if she sealed a particularly helpful number on the Ocula Obscura, she could ensure that she succeeds the test on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/76\/9f\/769f84c2-ff9b-4bea-b9c5-2a8c13b508b0\/ahc83_correlate_all_its_contents_40.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Correlate All Its Contents<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 40) by the exact right amount to get the maximum benefit. Alternatively, she could use the Ocula\u2019s ability to ensure she can succeed at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/59\/60\/59604010-b76c-4255-b4b2-808bf699dc54\/ahc83_whispers_of_doom_72.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Whispers of Doom<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 72), potentially taking an enemy out in an instant! Both of these events can be played at the end of her turn through her ability, thanks to the Ocula allowing her to seal tokens, but be careful; once you play an event this way, it\u2019s removed from the game. These cards function as Neutral cards for the purpose of deckbuilding, but you can only include them in your deck if your investigator has at least one of the card\u2019s required traits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, Agatha Crane has the\u00a0<strong><em>Miskatonic<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><em>Scholar<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0traits, while Marion Tavares has the\u00a0<strong><em>Drifter<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><em>Entrepreneur\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>traits. This means that Agatha could add cards like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/21\/89\/218952ab-b1a6-4c85-b79f-d0de6d4d038d\/ahc83_library_pass_99.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Library Pass<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 99) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/05\/04\/050486c7-ee59-4e67-8e6b-23cf54f459ad\/ahc83_archibald_macveigh_117.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Archibald MacVeigh<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 117) to her deck while Marion could not, despite the fact that both of them can add Neutral cards of level 0 to 5 to their deck. Likewise, Marion can add cards like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/df\/ba\/dfbac5f4-6ddc-4469-a435-015aa739f40f\/ahc83_true_awakening_106.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">True Awakening<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE<\/em>, 106) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/88\/e1\/88e1b982-2410-4de0-9dfb-d328f3a727f5\/ahc83_nose_to_the_grindstone_111.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nose to the Grindstone<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City IE,<\/em>\u00a0111) to her deck while Agatha cannot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specialist cards add even more options to the card pool and provide new significance to your chosen investigator\u2019s traits\u2014a feature that they share with elements of&nbsp;<em>The Drowned City Campaign Expansion\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Doom of Arkham<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of the&nbsp;<em>Campaign Expansion<\/em>, it\u2019s time to talk about the elephant in the room; or rather, the octopus. We mentioned him earlier, you\u2019ve seen him on the box art, and we\u2019ve been building up to him for a while:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cthulhu is here. He\u2019s kind of a big deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/a9\/f5\/a9f593cd-db33-4e23-b2c4-a5ae3c9f4a49\/ahc83-84_splash_art_2_700x560.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all starts with \u201cone last job.\u201d You and your fellow investigators set off on an expedition to the ancient, alien city of R\u2019lyeh, which has been slowly emerging from the waters of the South Pacific. You travel there at the behest of Randall Tillinghast, a local curio dealer who possesses a strange effigy of a gruesome, octopoidal monstrosity. To get you to undertake this journey, Randal presents you with an offer you can\u2019t refuse, which comes in the form of various \u201cTasks\u201d\u2014special side objectives that you\u2019ll work to complete during\u00a0<em>The Drowned City<\/em>\u00a0campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar to the specialist cards from the\u00a0<em>Investigator Expansion<\/em>, these Tasks are thematically tied to your investigator\u2019s traits, and you choose one to pursue over the course of the campaign. You can technically choose any Task for your investigator, but each Task recommends investigators of a specific class or with specific traits. For example, the Task\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/7e\/29\/7e290c56-5b73-4319-ac1d-9cf16e62d9fc\/ahc84_no_place_like_home_253a.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">No Place Like Home<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City Campaign Expansion<\/em>, 253a) is recommended for Survivor,\u00a0<strong><em>Drifter<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>Hunter<\/em><\/strong>, or\u00a0<strong><em>Wayfarer<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0investigators, while the Task\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/93\/46\/93467c9b-54c2-4fdd-8325-da7f1088aff3\/ahc84_do_no_harm_258a.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Do No Harm<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City CE<\/em>, 258a) is recommended for\u00a0<strong><em>Assistant<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>Civic<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>Medic<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>Veteran<\/em><\/strong>, or\u00a0<strong><em>Warden<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0investigators. As you play each scenario\u2014and make certain story decisions between them\u2014you\u2019ll gradually mark off progress for your Task in the campaign log. Do so enough times, and you can complete your Task, earning yourself a nice\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/84\/fe\/84fed1ad-43bb-434f-83a3-bc35968aa7c6\/ahc84_no_place_like_home_253b.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reward<\/a>\u00a0(<em>The Drowned City CE<\/em>, 253b) from Tillinghast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/4b\/ac\/4bacac8a-6226-4b61-bd05-154516305dc2\/ahc83-84_splash_art_3_700x560.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having Tillinghast clear your debts and resolve all your problems is pretty compelling, but exploring R\u2019lyeh isn\u2019t exactly a walk in the park. Each step you take is hounded by deadly traps, twisted monsters, and a\u00a0<em>ton<\/em>\u00a0of seawater, and those are just the dangers you face while wandering about the ancient city. When you arrive in R\u2019lyeh, you must choose which direction to explore from: the east or the west. This changes the order and setup of each scenario, which can drastically alter the events of the expedition itself. During your exploration, you\u2019ll need to search for artifacts and decipher alien glyphs, all while dealing with the unique challenges that present themselves based on the direction you choose to explore R\u2019lyeh from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you explore, you and your companions feel a growing sense of dread, like something enormous is about to happen. All of this slowly builds up to the inevitable reveal of the monstrous sleeper himself, Cthulhu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/19\/c8\/19c8200b-ce40-4ad5-b315-336d7d191bf0\/ahc83-84_splash_art_4_700x560.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The big, bad, Great Old One is, naturally, the final boss of\u00a0<em>The Drowned City Campaign Expansion<\/em>. And what a final boss he is! The investigators of Arkham have dealt with large monsters before, but never has such a massive\u2014and destructive\u2014abomination threatened the city at such a colossal scale before. Cthulhu\u2019s so big that you have to fight each part of him separately, all while desperately trying to mitigate the damage to the city as much as possible. It\u2019s a losing battle from the get-go, since Cthulhu casually floods any location he walks into, leaving all of Arkham a soaked, smoldering ruin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com\/filer_public\/59\/59\/5959526f-395d-4197-b641-8318c3c27571\/ahc84_card_fan_700x551.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can a handful of mere investigators do against such a powerful being? Your chances of stopping him are slim to none, but for the sake of Arkham\u2014and the world\u2014you\u2019ll have to try. No matter the outcome, one thing is clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arkham will never be the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>One Last Job<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the threat of Cthulhu looming over Arkham and the fate of the city resting in your hands,&nbsp;<em>The Drowned City Investigator Expansion<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>The Drowned City Campaign Expansion<\/em>&nbsp;both serve as essential additions to the collection of any fan.
