The majority of those with dementia have Alzheimer\u2019s disease, with the condition accounting for 60 to 80% of all diagnoses<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/links\">2<\/a><\/sup>. And, as the population continues to age, it is expected that those numbers could increase significantly over the next few decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Alzheimer\u2019s disease?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most common type of dementia, Alzheimer\u2019s disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that destroys brain cells, causing thinking ability and memory to deteriorate over time. Alzheimer\u2019s disease is not a normal part of aging and is irreversible<sup><a href=\"#sources\">3<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Dementia?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dementia is a broad term that describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss, changes in mood, and difficulties with thinking, problem solving and language<sup><a href=\"#sources\">4<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Staying Connected<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dementia can be isolating and can have a negative impact on mental health and wellbeing. Staying connected is essential for those suffering from all types of dementia, including Alzheimer\u2019s disease. In Canada, there are <a href=\"https:\/\/alzheimer.ca\/en\/help-support\/im-living-dementia\/living-well-dementia\/staying-socially-connected#More_useful_links_and_resources\">resources<\/a> available to help people living with dementia stay socially connected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bringing People Together With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessplus-asmodee.com\/en\">Access+<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Board games foster a sense of community, belonging and fun.
